Surfing in the United Kingdom: now that’s not something you hear about every day! Lucky for the Brits, The Wave in Bristol is set to reopen. Colby Leachman, surfing enthusiast, visits The Wave Surfing Lake upon reopening.

Bristol’s Inland Surf Destination
The United Kingdom is hardly a surfing destination for the adventurous surfer. In fact, until this week, Colby Leachman wasn’t even aware that people were surfing over the pond in the UK! An inland surf destination in Bristol, UK, The Wave is an artificial wave pool built for surfing. Leachman has previously featured some of the other interesting artificial wave pools out and about around the world — including SRF Park in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Back in Business: The Wave Reopens!
The surf is officially back in Bristol, UK — and Colby Leachman is stoked! As of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, The Wave is officially reopened. The artificial wave pool was shut with immediate effect last week after technical issues were experienced. However, Leachman has been informed that these matters have been resolved, per statements released by a spokesperson.
English Para Surfing Open 2025
British surfers were concerned that the sudden and unexpected closure of The Wave would complicate the upcoming English Para Surfing Open competition. In light of the reopening, this is no longer a concern. While the sudden closure of the site did lead to temporary booking cancellations, the English Para Surfing Open 2025 is still set to go on. Leachman looks forward to sharing the results of the event, scheduled for July 2-3, 2025.
